Update: PANTONE Fall/Winter 2012/2013 Home + Fashion Trends are in:
http://redoitdesign.wordpress.com/2011/06/23/new-pantone-co…nter-2012-2013/
Hot off the press, I just got off of PANTONE’s spring / summer 2012 webinar, introducing the new Color Trends Forecast!
There’s a strong influence between fashion trends, that tends to cross over into home décor in both color and textural influences. So here’s a first peek at the Color Trends Forecast for 2012 so you can compare and contrast its influence on Home and Housewares Color Trends (featured on the image at the top of this article). Fashion influence is a great inspirational cross-over for choosing wall color and inventing your color story, because clothing is scalable and easier to see in your mind’s eye.
Pantone’s theme is Bridges, which has everything to do with what is going on in Interior Design. The trend is really about metallics, transparency, and optical textures in fabrics shown side-by-side with very modern matte finishes with engineered curved lines – Modern meets updated flea market, or rather – transitional. Retro is heavily emphasized as well. This transitional marriage falls just short of expressing itself as “shabby chic”, which was characterized by crumpled texture and rather dumpy, non-delineated lines. The new trend is toward a much more sophisticated relationship between worn and friendly, and futuristic fantasy. It sounds easy to fall off the bridge, but don’t be intimidated – there’s no troll under the bridge!
There was a lot covered, so here are some highlights:

Now vs Then - Retro pattern and influence meet modern surfaces and materials - Pantone Webinar image
- Color Trends – Catalysts – more stimulating color! “Impetus, inspirational…”
- Retro figures prominently! Lovers of the Atomic Ranch look unite!
- Metallics – not only the staple gold, silver, and bronze shimmer, but bright colored Metallics make a splash for Spring 2012!

Thank you for reading it!
My self Meghshyam Gurjar, I am Assoc. Professor in Banasthali Institute of Design ,Rajasthan (India) (Pls. See http://www.Banasthali University .com) Banasthali Institute of Design (BID) a new institute (start in 2010) previously we had UG and PG courses in Textile Design from 1982, I would like to know how to get all Panton Spring/Summer Color Forecast Overview from 2000.
Greetings Meghshyam! I went into Pantone trade side of their website to see of there was an archive, but did not find the full trends for 2000. But this may help: http://www.amazon.com/Pantone-Twentieth-Century-Leatrice-Eiseman/dp/0811877566 Amazon carries “Pantone: The Twentieth Century in Color” and stateside it sells for $26.40 US. I am certain it will be available internationally as well – If you don’t have this book already, it may be very useful for your research. Good Luck!
I am isha bhatt, faculty from banasthali universityi am also want to know how we decidethe shades which are coming in next season.
Greetings Isha, The latest Pantone Color predictions are to announced in a trade webinar on Tuesday at noon. It usually takes me a few hours to disseminate and assembles them for everyone, so please check back in on Tuesday afternoon 2/28!
I like to see the new trends and relate them to what will be fashionable in the garden. I’ll use the same plants as previous years mostly but some beds may have additions and deletions to try for more up-to date palettes. Tango Tangerine and Back to the Fuchsia will still translate as Tithonia and Azalea plants but their companions may drastically change this year.
Lots of information here..I love the forecast this year!
Nicely Done!
As a design student trying to get to grips with designing for the next seasons of surface patterns etc, I find it really hard to find places that you can get a hint of a trend without having to pay my monthly food bill each time. Thankyou for this insight, now I can compete with the graduates and ft designers! Maybe
I feel your pain! By the time the industry is handed the trends they are already old news in the manufacturers and fashion designers. I think it would be easier to hack the pentagon than get advanced insight into color trends
dear and divine…. it is a value for time site for all creative people and sincerely appreciate your efforts….love all.
thank you very much for sharing this.
Can you refer me to other places about color and furniture trends forecast for 2012?
sincerely
Nurit
Of course! I always advocate considering multiple points of view. Here are some places where you can listen to the buzz.
In Media:
http://www.HGTV.com – They have allot of design voices and a formidable media pressence with about 4 million unique visitors per month. The most reliable voices at this time are Candice Olson of “Candice Tells All” and Sarah Richardson who has a great website with resources. “Secrets of a Stylist” with Emily Henderson has some interesting points of view, and David Bromstad is very talented.
For furniture:
Here is the industry’s own source: http://www.furnituretoday.com/
Just remember, this is a marketing tool for the industry so read with a grain of salt.
For Furniture and Design Trends:
Hands down – http://www.interiordesign.net/ All the core design groups interact with this website and magazine, and the newsletter is fantastic. You can check out ASID, KBIS, DIFFA, and much more. They have a whole section of online catalogs, too.
Color Trends: http://www.pantone.com/pages/pantone/index.aspx
For Trends and perspective:
http://www.apartmenttherapy.com
The reading is light but informative, and they are internet only, with the same statistical use as HGTV, but with the Scripps supporting network of 10 owned and operated television stations! Pretty impressive…
Have fun!
